Healing Minds
Do you know what is in the minds of some of the most compassionate neurosurgeons? They are thinking about a report. According to this report, 5 billion people do not have access to adequate surgical care. Providing access to adequate care and treatment can lead to saving about 16 million lives. Almost 70% of estimated annual unmet surgical needs are found in Asia, and about 14 million new essential cases for neurosurgery develop each year. Neurosurgeons can affect these statistics by engaging in sustainable global neurosurgical practices.
The Neurosurgery Outreach Foundation has been actively involved in balancing out the inequity since its inception in 2010. Through Educational Surgical Missions (ESM), volunteer neurosurgeons make an impact and ensure access to care and treatment for brain diseases is attainable in underserved communities. ESM is a sustainable, holistic, collaborative, and education-based event fostering the exchange of ideas and applications best suited for the local environment. The documentary, Healing Minds gives us a glimpse of that work.
Emmy Award-winning producer Mr. Ray Hays, Gemstone Medica, Inc., accompanied ESM 2022 team and followed five neurosurgeons from across the US to capture the work in action. Healing Minds highlights the huge need and eloquently delivers the message through transformative stories. Helping parents give their children a chance for the future and helping individuals overcome a disability are the obvious benefits. However, the intangible benefit is helping a community thrive and prosper.
Healing Minds, a 30-minute Emmy-nominated documentary, was aired in Jacksonville, Florida in January 2023. This project is a feel-good story that can easily be placed on any station in the US market. Please contact Gemstone Media if interested in airing on your local TV station.
Watch the documentary. We believe you will be moved by what you see.
