Accomplishments

The Neurosurgery Outreach Foundation has had many accomplishments over the years. Please donate to help us make a difference in even more communities.

Education

  • NOF-JGNS Global Neurosurgery Research Award winners were announced, October 2022. Winners' manuscripts and abstracts published in Journal of Global Neurosurgery.
  • Dr. Emmanuel E. Albano, Jr., received the NOF-TLFH Jacksonville Traveling Fellowship Award, September 2022.
  • Seven neurosurgical residents and trainees received the NOF-TLHF Educational Award for Skull-base Course at the Skull-base and Bypass Surgery Course at the 6th Annual Innovations In Cerebrovascular Science Conference by Baptist Health Stroke & Cerebrovascular, Ponte Vedra Beach, FL, September 2022.
  • Educational Surgical Mission (EMS) 2022 on Pediatric, Spine/Trauma, and Vascular Cases was held in Manila, Cebu, and Davao, Philippines. We had virtual participation for the first time in ESM history.
  • Dr. Arianna Barkley was presented the JB Resident for Global Neurosurgery Award, April 2022, to participate in ESM 2022.
  • We shipped over 40 copies of Vasculature of the Brain and Cranial Base, Variations in Clinical Anatomy by Walter Grand, L. Nelson Hopkins, Adnan H Siddiqui, and J. Mocco to neurosurgical residency programs in Indonesia, Vietnam, Philippines, and Africa in the summer and fall of 2021.
  • Seven residents from Southeast Asia received the Dr. Benigno S. Aldana, Jr. Educational Award 2019 as sponsorship to attend the 16th Asian Australasian Advanced Course in Pediatric Neurosurgery (AAAPCN) in Zhubei City, Hsinchu County, Taiwan, on October 2019.
  • Two residents from the Philippines received the Dr. Benigno S. Aldana, Jr. Educational Award 2019 for the Jacksonville Traveling Fellowship supported by the Trinity Love Hoblit Foundation.
  • Ten residents from Brazil and Indonesia received the Dr. Benigno S. Aldana, Jr. Educational Award 2019 as sponsorship to attend Innovations in Cerebrovascular (CV) Science and World Federation of Neurosurgical (WFNS) Endorsed Bypass Skull-Base Course in Jacksonville, FL, on April 2019. The Trinity Love Hoblit Foundation exclusively supports this award.
  • Six residents from Southeast Asia received the Dr. Benigno S. Aldana, Jr. Educational Award 2018 as sponsorship to attend the 15th AAACPN in Mito, Ibaraki, Japan, on November 2018.

  • ESM 2018: Updates in Care of the Neurosurgical Patient on Vascular, Spine, and Pediatric Cases was held in Cebu, Philippines, on June 2018.
  • Seven residents from Southeast Asia received the Dr. Benigno S. Aldana Jr. Educational Award 2017 as sponsorship to attend the 14th AAACPN in Seoul, South Korea, on December 2017.
  • Four residents from Southeast Asia received the Dr. Benigno S. Aldana Jr. Educational Award 2017 as sponsorship to attend the AAACPN in Shanghai, China, on January 2017.
  • ESM 2016: Endoscopic 3rd Ventriculostomy + Choroid Plexus Coagulation (ETV+CPC) was held in Cebu, Philippines, on July 2016.
  • Eight residents from Southeast Asia received the Dr. Benigno S. Aldana Jr. Educational Award 2016 as sponsorship to attend the AAACPN in Kolkota, India, on January 2016.
  • Four residents from Southeast Asia received the Dr. Benigno S. Aldana Jr. Educational Award 2015 as sponsorship to attend the AAACPN in Indonesia on January 2015.
  • ESM 2014: Philippine Advanced Neuroendoscopy Symposium was held in Bonifacio Global City, Philippines, on June 2014.
  • Six residents from Southeast Asia received the Dr. Benigno S. Aldana Jr. Educational Award 2014 as sponsorship to attend the AAACPN in Singapore on January 2014.
  • The Dr. Benigno S. Aldana, Jr. Educational Award 2013 was presented to Dr. Junior U. Borja of the Armed Forces of the Philippines Medical Center in the Philippines on June 2013.
  • ESM 2012: Seminar on Neuroendoscopy for the Treatment of Hydrocephalus was held in Dagupan City, Pangasinan, Philippines, on December 2012.
  • The Dr. Benigno S. Aldana, Jr. Educational Award 2012 was presented to Dr. Ronnie Baticulon of the Philippine General Hospital and Dr. Medardo Joseph E. Millares of the Armed Forces of the Philippines Medical Center in the Philippines on July 2012.
  • ESM 2010: Seminar on Neuroendoscopy for the Treatment of Hydrocephalus was held in Cebu City, Cebu in the Philippines, on June 2010.

Service

  • ESM 2022 lectures were conducted, and surgeries were performed on charity patients with local neurosurgeons in Manila and Cebu. We performed the first single-level selective dorsal rhizotomy in the Philippines at the Philippine General Hospital.
  • We presented gift bags to ESM 2022 patients in Manila and Cebu on June 2022.
  • ESM 2018: Updates in Care of the Neurosurgical Patient was held in Cebu City. We conducted lectures and training sessions. Surgeries were performed on charity patients with local neurosurgeons.
  • During ESM 2018, we presented gift bags and conducted in-patient and home visits to CURE/The Neurosurgery Outreach Foundation Hydrocephalus Program patients’ families in Cebu City on June 2018.
  • ESM 2016 Endoscopic Third Ventriculostomy + Choroid Plexus Coagulation (ETV-CPC) was held in Cebu City. Surgeries were performed on charity patients with local neurosurgeons.
  • Neuro-endoscopic surgeries were performed on charity patients with local neurosurgeons in Cebu City (ESM 2010), Dagupan City (ESM 2012), and Manila (ESM 2014).
  • We presented Anna’s Bandanas to the pediatric patients of the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center (VSMMC) in Cebu, Philippines, on June 2014.
  • We presented Anna’s Bandanas to pediatric patients of the Philippine General Hospital in the Philippines on June 2014.
  • We presented Anna’s Bandanas to pediatric patients of the University of Florida Proton Therapy Institute in Jacksonville, FL, on December 2013.

Support

  • We contributed to The Neurosurgery Outreach Foundation’s Neurosurgical Patient Care Funds to benefit patients in the Philippine General Hospital and VSMMC, June 2022
  • We donated drills, aneurysm clips, surgical supplies, and books to the Philippine General Hospital, VSMMC, and the Southern Philippine Medical Center on June 2022.
  • We created The Neurosurgery Outreach Foundation’s Neurosurgical Patient Care Fund to benefit patients in the Philippine General Hospital in Manila on April 2021.
  • We donated Zeiss OR Microscope to VSMMC in Cebu, Philippines, on November 2019.
  • We supported World Hydrocephalus & Spina Bifida Day Event at VSMMC in Cebu, Philippines, on October 2019.
  • We donated Anna’s Bandanas to the Children’s National Hospital Division of Neurology in Washington, DC, USA, on August 2019.
  • We donated medical/surgical supplies and instrumentations to Jose R. Reyes Memorial Medical Center in Manila, Philippines, on June 2019.
  • We donated medical/surgical supplies and instrumentations to the Philippine General Hospital in Manila, Philippines, on June 2018.
  • We created The Neurosurgery Outreach Foundation Emergency Patient Fund for VSMMC neurosurgical patients (ESM 2018) in Cebu, Philippines, on June 2018.
  • We presented aneurysm clips and other instrumentations to the VSMMC Department of Neurosurgery (ESM 2018) in Cebu, Philippines, on June 2018.
  • We presented a financial gift to the VSMMC Department of Neurosurgery to benefit pediatric hydrocephalus patients in Cebu, Philippines, on July 2016.
  • We donated a new, portable, complete endoscopic unit to the Philippine General Hospital in Manila and VSMMC in Cebu, Philippines, in 2015.
  • We donated surgical equipment to the Philippine General Hospital in the Philippines on September 2014.
  • We donated surgical equipment to the VSMMC Department of Neurosurgery in Cebu, Philippines, on June 2014.
  • We presented a financial gift to the Pediatric Neurosurgical & Craniofacial Operating Unit of the Philippine General Hospital in Manila, Philippines, on June 2014.
  • We donated surgical equipment to VSMMC in Cebu, Philippines, in 2010.

IMPACT REPORT

  • Total gift impact to date valued almost $500,000.
  • 6 Educational Surgical Missions.
  • About $45,000 Educationa Awards presented to over 60 neurosurgical residents/trainees in 11 countries.
  • Equipment and Patient Care Support valued at $350,000.
  • About 100 children have received Anna's Bandanas in 3 countries.
  • Over 130 residents, medical, and other healthcare providers trained in basic and advanced neurosurgical techniques and OR systems.
  • About 400 patients benefitted from either equipment or patient care support.
  • 95% of total funds committed to programs.
